Encapsulation of cesium with a solid waste-derived sulfoaluminate matrix: A circular economy approach of treating nuclear wastes with solid wastes

چکیده

It is of great importance to safely dispose nuclear wastes with the development industries. Past approaches this problem have included immobilizing radioactive cesium in Portland cement-based matrices; however, leaching rates are relatively high, especially as temperature increases. This paper explores a high-efficiency and cost-effective approach for encapsulating using sulfoaluminate cement (SAC) matrix, which was prepared via synergetic use industrial solid wastes. Leaching results showed that, apparent diffusion coefficient values were only ~1.4 × 10−15 cm2/s ~5 10−18 at 25 ℃ 90 conditions, respectively. These several orders magnitude lower when compared previously reported values, indicating excellent encapsulation performance solid-waste-based SAC cesium. Moreover, heavy metals contained waste also effectively immobilized. A mechanistic analysis revealed that encapsulated matrices stably by physical effect. Finally, life cycle assessment economic indicated environmental-friendly, cost-effective, energy-saving. work provides promising strategy effective treatment

A. Waste Management A.1. Introduction and General Issues on Hazardous Wastes and Solid Wastes

The objective of the German government’s policy on waste is to achieve a recyclingbased economy that conserves resources and reduces adverse impacts on the environment. The aim is to increase and optimise the efficient use of raw materials, to maximise recovery quotas and to permanently remove from our environment any residual waste that can no longer be used. This will lead to a substance mana...

Solid wastes from nuclear power production.

Radioactivity in nuclear power effluents is negligible compared to that in retained wastes to be disposed of as solids. Two basic waste categories are those for which shallow disposal is accepted and those for which more extreme isolation is desired. The latter includes "high level" wastes and others contaminated with radionuclides with the unusual combined properties of long radioactive half-l...

Solid-phase Methane Fermentation of Solid Wastes

Dr. Ghosh has presented a novel technique for the con version of Municipal Waste (MSW) to methane rich gas. Prior work has either permitted fermentation to proceed naturally (landfill gas extraction) or used conventional stirred reactors (DOE Ref COM facility). Proposed is to recycle leachate through a mass of solid waste to achieve volatile acids and then to convert the acids to methane in a ...

Application of anaerobic digestion products of municipal solid food wastes in treating wastewaters

Anaerobic digestion is the breakdown of biodegradable organic material by microorganisms in the absence of oxygen or in an oxygen-starved environment. This technology is superior to the landfilling and also the aerobic composting. The aim of the present study was to examine whether the effluent Volatile Fatty Acids from the anaerobic acidogenesis of the food waste can be used du to its high valu...

Composting of Municipal Solid Wastes

The generation of municipal solid waste is increasing year by year and there are many options for handling and disposing of these wastes. Currently in United States land disposal is the most common practice to deal with municipal solid wastes. The evolution of waste generation, and increase in population suggest composting as a future alternative. Since municipal solid waste comprises of a high...
